BE Change Funds Teachers, Textbooks and More for 96 Students

In January 2021, BE Change provided funding for teacher salaries, textbooks and special school events at Bhavishya Me Free Education School in Manjhar Village, Bihar. As schools in Bihar remain closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, these funds will ensure students have the resources necessary to catch up as soon as classes resume. The funds will allow Bhavishya Me to provide new textbooks covering seven subjects to each of its 96 students. If schools are not permitted to open soon, Bhavishya Me staff will distribute these textbooks to students at home.

Due to a lack of funding, Bhavishya Me’s teachers have not been paid since February 2020 despite working at school through the start of the COVID-19 lockdowns and continuing to support students thereafter. BE Change funds will allow Bhavishya Me to provide backpay for these dedicated professionals to compensate them for their work since March.

In 2021, these BE Change funds will support teachers’ salaries through at least June. The funds will also support the cost of special school events, like Indian holiday celebrations, fostering a sense of community among students and giving them even more reason to love their education.

BE Change delivers annual project funding in installments as part of our financial oversight process. Once we complete our review of Bhavishya Me’s use of BE Change funds for the first half of the year, we plan to continue to fund teacher salaries and special school event costs at Bhavishya Me for the remainder of the year, from July 2021 to December 2021.
